Bangladesh Bank Establishes a Data Recovery Center as Part of Automation Drive

Bangladesh Bank (BB) is the central bank in Bangladesh and it has asked all scheduled banks in the country to go for automation of their banking services by December 2010. BB has established a data center in the capital city Dhaka and a data recovery center in the Mirpur area of the city.

The data center will help the central bank's drive to usher the banking industry into the automated era. All banks have been asked to install Core Banking Solutions (CBS) and inter-branch connectivity by this year end. Machine-readable checks that facilitate automated settlements had already been introduced last year.

BB had also introduced Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH) last year. Even though BACH had reduced settlement time from three days to two hours, only a limited number of banks are participating because the others have not yet started using banking software for operations and connectivity.
