Data Recovery Security and Data Protection

Data Recovery Security and Protection

Reputed data recovery companies take extra care to protect clients' data entrusted to them for recovery.

Below is a sample of procedures adopted by companies for this purpose:

  • Security best practice compliance: Standards have been developed to ensure that data is protected while it is hosted or stored by the data recovery agency. Certification obtained from certifying agencies can indicate that the company is following secure procedures
  • Security practices: Installation of firewalls that prevent outside access to the data, intrusion detection and prevention systems that check for and foil unauthorized attempts to access the data, and continuous monitoring of the data through automated means are examples of sound data security practices
  • Encryption:Storage media containing recovered data need to be returned to the clients and this is often done through couriers. It is possible that the package can be lost or stolen during transit and in such cases, encryption ensures that any unauthorized person who gets the package will not be able to access the data in a meaningful way
  • Physical safeguards: Biometrically restricted access to data recovery rooms, storage of data media in strong rooms or safes and accounting for all access to the media/data can keep a watch on who accessed what data and what the person did with it
