Linux Data Recovery for File System Damage

Linux offers the fsck utility that checks file system and hard disk integrity in five phases. In the course of checking, you might come across the error message: "Root iNode is not a directory. Clear?" This indicates trouble as the root inode is the parent of iNodes that hold information about all files. If the root is corrupted, files become inaccessible.

In such a situation, you will need to use a third party linux data recovery tool to perform an absolute recovery of what is on the hard disk and work with it. The data recovery tool should not do any write operations by itself as that can overwrite existing data.

In addition to being read-only, the linux data recovery tool should also have a user-friendly graphical interface to help users who are not system experts.
