A university student got a data recovery worth $1200 free. Not the typical "free" hook, but the full monty. Below is the data loss and data recovery story in brief.
The student had years of university study materials, lecture notes, reference materials, presentations, and all the other degree materials on his hard drive. He also had backed up, but to a partition on the same hard drive. And the material was to be used something like next week.
One day, after completing a long session at the computer, he stretched his leg, and kicked the power supply chord from the back of the computer. On trying to restart the computer after plugging the chord back in, the system did not respond. The error message that appeared led him to feel that all it needed was a rescue disk to get things back to normal.
